Từ những năm 1930, Niên lịch truyền thống của Nông dân bang Maine đã bắt đầu công bố tên gọi cho các kỳ trăng tròn, và đến nay, những tên gọi này vẫn được phổ biến và sử dụng rộng rãi.

Theo Niên lịch, trăng tròn vào tháng 5 được gọi là Trăng Hoa – tên gọi của bộ tộc Algonquin sống tại vùng đông bắc Hoa Kỳ, để ghi nhớ thời điểm muôn hoa đua nở. Một số cái tên khác cho kỳ trăng này còn có Trăng Ngô hoặc Trăng Gieo Ngô.

A Flower Moon in full bloom

The Maine Farmers' Almanac began publishing names for full Moons in the 1930s and these names are now widely known and used.

According to this almanac, as the full Moon in May the Algonquin tribes of what is now the north-eastern United States called this the Flower Moon for the flowers that are abundant this time of year. Other names include the Corn or Corn Planting Moon.
